From a reporting point of view there was not a lot to say about the reserves’ match against Amersham Town. A goalless draw was played out by two teams whose defences dominated for much of the game. Northwood gave a run out to seven first team squad members, whose opportunity to impress the watching 1st team management wasn’t taken by some. Woods attacked in the first half and wayward shooting kept it scoreless. Mitch Swain did, however, have to make a brilliant stop in the 12th minute to keep Amersham at bay. The best chance of the half fell to defender Richard Vercesi, who scooped the ball over the bar from fully six yards. Lawrie Walters replaced Gary Burrell just after the break, but there still was no joy for the Woods. The Amersham goalie only had one save to make, in the 67th minute, when he beat out a strong shot from Hugo Figueiredo. Fifteen minutes from the end Richard Vercesi headed a back pass which Mitch Swain had to stretch back and tip over the bar. The defence played reasonably well but there was no cohesion in midfield and attack was very poor on the night.
